Alabama License Plates

Veterans, please be aware of the below information provided by the City of Huntsville regarding Alabama veteran license plates for Disabled Veterans, and the specific authorization required for utilizing handicapped parking spaces.

Dear Veteran,

Alabama Law does not authorize vehicles displaying a standard disabled veteran tag to park in handicap parking spaces. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations for utilizing handicap parking spaces require that the person be unable to walk more than 200 feet without rest or assistance and that this be verified by a physician.

To lawfully park in a reserved handicapped space you will need to request a veterans tag with the universal handicapped symbol pictured below.

The application for the tag can be picked up at the Madison County Courthouse License department.
